Parliament week is a national scouting event to give the scouts more information about how our democracy works and what members of parliament do for us. So we invited Jack Lopresti into the osr but as it’s a sitting week it wasn’t possible so the next best thing was to have a zoom session with Jack in London and the troop members in Stoke Gifford (alison joined us from Andover). Jack explained about his history in politics and the fact he doesn’t see it as work as he is so pationate about representing his constituents. He spoke about how his week works and what he does as a back bencher. His family and how his wife is also an MP. The scouts asked lots of questions and Jack was happy to answer all of them. At the end of the session he invited us up to Westminster for a toured visit and another in person visit sometime in the future. Then the scouts split into 2 sides to debate cats or dogs with kathryn as speaker and Megan leader of cats party and Rayne the leader of the dogs party. Everyone got involved with the flow of the debate and at the end a few scouts changed their views. This did show the scouts just how difficult it is in a democracy. Comments are closed.
