This has been hush hush for about 4 months but after completion of Avon County appointments our very own Phelpsie has been appointed as ACCScouts a role that he hopes can be done alongside the busy OSR scout troop.
Tonight for the OSR scout troops end of term activity we went to Hollywood Bowl, Cribbs Causeway to take part in the International Bowling competition Jambowlree (the troop came 10th in 2016 out of 134 entries in our age group). We are hoping to do better this year. During the evening everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves including the leaders who had nabbed the VIP lane! The overall winning team was lane 21; Lewis, Oscar, Matthew, Cameron, Oliver, Jack D, William D and Jake. With the top scoring scout being Matthew Coggan This team score 670 will be entered in the Jambowlree competition 2017. The leaders scored 731 with their glorious leader setting the top score with 128 in his flip flops. Well done to everyone we've had a busy term this Spring. Roll on the Summer Today the OSR scouts visited The Cattybrook Quarry and Brickworks to complete the Scouts of America Geology Merit badge. We were met by Mia and other members of staff who had all given up there Saturday morning to show us around firstly the quarry where Jeremy Gibbs the Geologist that took us through the badge requirements was able to show the scouts different rock and mineral samples etc. Then after a refreshments break it was in to the Brickworks where we saw what happens to the raw material dug up from the quarry. The tour was amazing and on behalf of the troop I would like to say a Big Thank you to the quarry staff and especially Mia for all their hard work making this event happen, the scouts loved it and learnt lots to. |
