Last evening was the latest online scouting session for OSR Scouts who again continued their zoom sessions as everyone was having a lot of fun. A general chat at first so the scouts could catch up with everyone. Plus the leaders checked all we’re keeping safe. Then 2 x Kahoot quizzes (1x osr scout troop and 1x map reading symbols) then a short chocolate identification quiz sheet followed by answers. Challenge for this week was to build the tallest free standing newspaper tower. It was great to see 29 of the troop on zoom. Take care all. St. George’s Day 2020 was different than other years, during shut down there’s no church parade or day of activities as in previous years. So the County Commissioner Graham Brant has asked for scouters young and older to renew their scout promise on their doorsteps before the 8pm clap for Heros. The OSRs scouts in Stoke Gifford did just that. Good job all. Tonight’s Zoom session for the OSR scouts lasted an hour and a half with 27 scouts introducing their pets. Dogs, cats, rabbits and a few other species were all proudly talked about to members of the troop. Some animals stayed for the session and some made a fast exit at show time but it was clear that the scouts have a lot of love for their pets.
We discussed challenges that had been set during the lockdown and then played a logo quiz on Kahoot and bingo. James won the quiz and Megan called BINGO first. Good job all. Stay safe. Lock down during this virus outbreak has stopped all face to face scout sessions. In many ways online scouting is tougher than meetings in person but the scouts light up during the zoom sessions. It’s all about the scouts having fun and tonight they learnt how to use sign language to sign their own names. We played bingo and Kahoot! Quizzes. We even tried a knife fork and spoon game (based on rock, paper, scissors) The scouts spent two forty minute periods playing and chatting with each other. It was great.
