The Avon County Cooking Comp is on Sunday 3/3/19 at keynsham scout HQ so the four scouts representing the OSR scout troop spend a day of their half term break practicing their menu. The theme is world scout Jamboree’s past and future and although the next one is number 24 only 17 countries have held the world wide camp. The OSR scouts have chosen West Virginia which is this year 2019. They’ve prepared Prawn Cocktail, deconstructed Cottage Pie and Eton Mess. It tasted fab and looked great. Good job all and thank you for representing the troop. Tonight the OSR scouts started the Astronautics Activity Badge. This is the first time we’ve ever tried to achieve this one and we had invited Stephen into the troop with his planetarium dome. First we went through the 8 planets in are solar system and using fruit to reduce scale went outside to show how far they are separated from the sun. Then into the dome for a constellation show with a very informative talk on life on other planets and debate on how life started and the Goldilocks zone. Touching on craters and satellites to be continued on our next meeting after half term. During the holidays homework to research ISS and a space mission. Big thank you to Stephen for his expertise and interesting talk. Tonight the OSR scouts were given the use of the ict room in St. Michaels School to design a promotional poster for the local community about their favourite part of scouting or parts! As you can see we do a lot of great stuff in scouts and you could to if you want to join please contact us. As Chinese New Year is tomorrow we decided to give the Beavers a small taste of Chinese Culture.
They made red gift envelopes, tried some authentic Chinese food (not fro the take away), had a go at adding up in the Chinese style, did some colouring & demonstrated their skills with chop sticks |
