Tonight saw the osr scouts return for the summer term. With 3 investitures and then out into the fresh air to compete in a patrol It’s a Knockout competition. With an egg and spoon section, football dribbling around poles then a bean bag precision throwing into a bucket and hoop and a balancing a bean bag on their head course across the whole of the green. The scouts ran back to the start and tagged the next scout. To make this more interesting and count towards the athletics badge the scouts were blindfolded and with the assistance of another patrol member navigated the course. A lot more concentration this round. Then finally another sighted round and then back into the hall which was toasty and warm. So there’s a fundamental flaw in the necker design, the scouts have to unroll them to workout which ones are there’s at the end of the evening or at inspection on camp. During their investiture they all get a branded leather woggle so we’ve found ourselves needing to make their neckers individual for easier identification.
What better way that to buy a few meters of paracord and weave your own design of colourful woggle. Let’s see what the scouts come up with! Today the osr scouts had a fabulous D&D session with Chris plus a session of character painting for the roll play game. Chris had the dungeons and dragons game on iPads and tv screens so it was easier to follow rather than the paper and pencil version. Each of the scouts chose a character and each in turn rolled dice sets to see how they would react. Lots of laughter and enthusiastic chatter coming from the D&D side of the hall with snacks and drinks. The painting side of the hall the scouts had the option to choose a space marine or a Stormcast eternal figure supplied free with all the paints/ brushes/ booklets/ painting guides and mixing pallets from The Games Workshop. We had a selection of Orks that belonged to george and gave the scouts ideas of painting. The scouts all chose the same figure but the colours chosen were all different and the four hours flew by. Massive ty to Chris whom I think had as much fun as the scouts did from the sounds of it. Ty to leaders who gave up their time and ty to the scouts that came to the session for all their hard work and participation. Can’t wait to do it again. Tonight was the end of term for the old school rooms scouts and in true form the scouts let their hair down after a full on term. 32 of the troop attended to Hollywood Bowl at Cribbs causeway and in their patrols competed against each other patrol and with the top scores being entered into the Jambowlree 2022. The first game was over before 8pm so another game was ordered to keep the scouts entertained some fab scores and a lot of concentration. The second games took a little longer but again some fab scores to enter into the international competition. Jugs of juice and the scouts bought chips and played in the amusement area between turns. What a great evening was had and now we have earned a break over the Easter holidays before another full programme for the summer term. |
