Ever since I joined 1st Stoke Gifford osr scouts there’s been a single meteorologist activity badge in the badge box. So tonight we were joined on zoom by Abby a senior operational met officer who has travelled the world helping the military aviators to keep ahead of the weather. The scouts were taken through all the requirements and tested to see what they had retained. Now the hard work, we’ve got a weather station to make and a 2 weeks weather chart to fill out. Big TY to Abby and good job by the scouts. We are going to test our knowledge with a weather Kahoot quiz. Week Two of the OSR Scouts getting all arty and this week it’s landscapes! We had pictures sent in by scouts that couldn’t make the zoom session which was very nice. Tonight we started showing are landscapes and explaining where the inspiration came from. Mostly from the scouts imagination which shows a very creative side to all of us. Well done scouts loving your work! The pandemic and lockdowns have given us all time to do more at home. The Artist activity badge doesn’t get tackled very often by the osr scouts, maybe because we’re always so active and don’t spend much time in the hall. So taking advantage of things we don’t normally do (in fact we have done a lot during the last year including 54 zoom sessions). Week one was a scene from a story and an object. Next week we have a landscape and sharing other works we’ve done perhaps from the scouts school work. So this year due to the pandemic the Kahoutek competition run by the scouting and guiding units at UWE and Bristol Universities was held online. OSR scouts have spent the last 3 Wednesday zoom sessions completing the online puzzles and finished last night. Doing the timed events over zoom was very difficult especially when having to change team members but it gave the leaders plenty of entertainment and the noise levels definitely rose as the sessions went by. Big well done to all the scouts and big ty to the organisers. Our scores are in so now just have to wait and see where we place. Well the results are out and we’ve only gone and come second by 1 point. The winners are from Portugal and so we came top out of the teams that normally attend Woodhouse park and take part making us the first scout group to win the trophy since the competition was restarted in 2017. Big well done to all the scouts that took part on zoom. |
