Tonight the OSR Scout troop explored their faiths and beliefs with help from Sam a church worker from St. Michael’s Church our group sponsor. The scouts looked at attitudes to faith and what Christians believe as well as discussions on challenges and meanings of scripture. Big TY to Sam for helping cover this activity badge for us. Tonight as part of A Million Hands the OSR Scout troop in Stoke Gifford invited in The Black Dog group from Bristol University to cover a Better Mental Health For All theme. Three members of the group came into the troop session and split them into groups discussing mental health, different diagnosis and symptoms. The facts and myths surrounding mental health and role plays on situations and how best to resolve them. The final advice was to always seek help if you need it and as scouts to help others and do a good deed Big Thank You to the black dog members for coming in tonight you have given the scouts something to think about. Tonight was the Brunel District night hike at Ashton Court Estate in Bristol and the Old School Rooms troop in Stoke Gifford had 6 scouts enter. The nights are drawing in now as we get closer to Winter and at 5pm it’s dark! The team were ready with hi vis tabards , maps, compass, whistle, torches and all their scouting skills. Some areas of the park are pitch black and visibility is bad but as you can see from the photos everyone survived and they’re all still smiling. Big TY to the leaders that accompanied the team and covered a base for the organisers. These activities couldn’t run without you all! We didn’t win but there’s always next year! The Avon County Scouts Cooking Comp is early in February 2020 and with the OSR Scout troop wanting to enter again it was time to test our culinary skills. The PLs had to decide on a 3 course menu on the theme of the Olympics all under a budget of £20 and shop for the ingredients. Tonight they explained their menu to their patrols and then to work!! So they had a double burner, a frying pan, Dixie and all the other bits and bobs. The smells were great, fab teamwork and the final results looks amazing. The judges liked lots of the different elements and now to pick a team to represent the troop. Good job all. Clearing up took a while! |
