Today was bright and chilly but this didn’t stop OSR Scouts from taking part in Disc Golf at the Ashton Court Estate. Based on the same rules as golf but with lots of trees in the way. Lots of fun and laughter as the frisbees ended up behind us or in the bushes more than not. The 9 hole course took around an hour and we all had fun and a bit of exercise. This evening scouts and cubs from OSR Scout group took part in a skiing session at the Mendip Activity Centre. They were kitted out and had professional instructors taking them through everything for beginners to the more intermediary skills for skiing. The scouts and cubs seemed to enjoy the experience and the leaders had fun with lots of the parents watching the youngsters learning new skills. Big well done to Mike for organising the activity. We need to do this annually so the YP can get better and better. Tonight’s session for old school rooms scouts in Stoke Gifford was all about cooking, Ready Steady Cook style. The patrols were given a basic bag of mince beef, an onion, a pepper and a tin of mixed fruit. They had to come up with a 2 course meal and about an hour and 30 minutes. As per the TV show there was a central table filled with other items that the patrol leaders could choose from. Hobs, pots and pans, utensils and plates, bowls, cups KFS’s at the ready and off they went. The patrols were judged on leadership, team work, hygiene, safety, taste, presentation as well as clean up. The winners with beef burgers were kestrels the best dessert was Hawks and all the points will be added to the patrol points for the termly trophy challenge. Tonight we were joined by a doctor and a nurse to help the osr scouts get to grips with the Emergency Aid 3 staged activity badge. We practiced CPR on dummies and some mannequins! Put scouts into the recovery position plus learnt how to deal with people too hot and too cold. The scouts had a bit of fun whilst doing the practical parts but then it was down to business learning the theory about cuts, burns and how to contact the 999 services to report an incident. Big ty to our guests and well done to the scouts. |
