Tonight was the final session of the term and the OSR scouts went paintballing at the Bristol Activity Centre at Cribbs Causeway. After signing in and handing in their waiver slips it was overalls and headgear check and then safety video and briefing. The troop were split in two and off they went to do battle. 250 paintballs each and 5 games. After the first game the scouts were buzzing! War stories and lots of sweet. Some seemed to not last very long each game and some seemed to not want to come back in but everyone had fun and that’s the main thing. Team building and marksmanship done after the 2 hour session and it was dekit and debrief and thank the staff and we broke up for the summer break Last evening scouts from the old school rooms troop went to Siston Common to try the national orienteering course. As it’s getting to the end of term lots of school plays and camps so only a third of the troop but a great evening sat in the fields behind the 1st Warmley scout hut watching the balloons and listening to the bell ringing. The scouts had a fab time in small groups chatting to their friends and finding as many of the orienteering posts as they could. On Saturday 9th July 2022 at 11:45am the OSR scouts met up at Berkeley power station for the start of the 2 day expedition. After team photos and logging mobile phone numbers (just in case) all scouts were issued fluorescent vests and rucksack covers, team maps/ compass/ emergency bags/ first aid kits and of course half the tent each it was time to make a search of rucksacks to make sure all the kit list was present! Then off they went into the Severn Walkway. Regular check points with more drinks and snacks to keep them going each team followed at a safe distance by 2 first aid trained adult leaders and of course health checks as it was really warm even with the strong coastal breeze. Both teams eventually made it to the campsite and put up their tents before the real ruffing it started……… off to dinner! A few quick wide games and then to bed Sunday 10th started at 7am with everyone being loudly awoken by the leaders. Tents down, kitbags filled and then breakfast. Packed lunches quick group photo and off they went again. Cooler in the morning so both teams made good progress. Cut inland after check point 1 to Elberton, Olveston and Tockington before finishing ahead of time at Woodhouse Park scout activity centre and campsite. Fabulous effort by all, not too much pain and discomfort but we’re all still healthy and then dekit and home for a much deserved freshen up. Well done to all the scouts but it wouldn’t be possible without the leaders that so freely give up their time for the scouts to learn skills for life. Big TY to Martin, Lee, Dan, George, Ali, Paul and Me. Here’s to next year! Tonight thanks to Mike who did all the preparations, the OSR Scouts were treated to samples of food from 12 countries from around the world. The scouts had to identify the food, which country it originated and the countries flag. Points gained for final term points trophy. All the scouts enjoyed the food tasting with some more enjoyable than others. All this after 5 scouts were invested into the osr troop. Finally we had a food quiz, 4 rounds of 25 questions. First round on Italy. Again results go towards the patrol trophy. Well done all but we didn’t manage rounds 2,3 and 4 as we ran out of time. Great night and good to see all the scouts in full uniform again. |
