This lunchtime (Friday 27/10/23) scouts from the Old School Rooms troop in Stoke Gifford attended Parkway Train Stn to join with other community groups to help the RBL SG branch to launch their Poppy Appeal 2023. The RBL raise an amazing amount every year which goes to help veterans by selling Poppies and various other items in local stores and outlets. The scouts were in their half term break and were more than happy to give up some time to help the RBL who are coming into the troop in a few weeks to help them gain their Poppy badge. Ty all. Half term and old school rooms scouts are out at woodhouse park for joti and adventurous activities including archery, cross bow, climbing, abseiling, jacob’s ladder, crate stacking, laser quest, go carts, pizza making, model making, crafts, escape room and of course talking with scouts from other countries including Germany, Luxembourg, Australia, USA, Denmark to name a few. The day was fab, overcast but only a little shower. Gj Andy and Paul plus team 150 scouts and lots to keep them occupied. Tonight 5 members from RR graduate scheme based in Bristol and Derby visited the old school rooms scout troop to help with the scientist activity badge. The scouts were shown a turbine engine and then built there own paper airplane which they test flew in the hall. The planes were decorated and made unique with craft scissors. Then the scouts added an electronic propeller and re tested their planes. The team also talked about RR in the community and explained YL some of the military and commercial work that the company does. The scouts had a lot of fun and the RR team gave out prizes to the scouts. Big ty to molly and her team. This evening the OSR scouts were joined by Chris (solar leader), Gary (ACC 14-25), Kathryn (kings scout coordinator) and Nathan (participant of Wsj). The presentation started about what the scouts can expect moving up into explorers at 14.5yrs. Then following on into Network and what awards, camps, activities. Finally personal experience of the Wsj. At the end of the evening we were joined by the YL commissioner who presented Sasha with her YL belt and certificate. Speaking about the commitment shown by her over 3 years of missions, modules and face to face training sessions. Big BRAVO to sasha. Ty to all the leaders that came into the osr and gave the scouts the knowledge of what comes next in their scouting journey. |
