Last evening the scouts from the old school rooms troop welcomed Alex into the weekly session for a presentation on gender. Alex is a qualified teacher and has in the past made the same presentation to teachers so that they have a better understanding and can answer questions from students. The talk covered gender types with definitions and flags that represent them. Following the PowerPoint all the scouts were given the chance to design their own flag (some very colourful). Big TY to Alex whom we made an honorary 1st SG scout at the end of the evening. Very informative talk which during the feedback and Q&A many thanked Alex for coming in to cover this part of the World Challenge award. Today saw scouts from OSR troop taking part in the Avon County shooting and archery competition, this year held at Bath districts campsite on the outskirts of Bath. The day started at 8am for a briefing and bacon butty and registration, it was chilly until the sun came out and warmed the fields. This year crossbow was added to the disciplines as well as archery, pistol, rifles and clay pigeon (extra fee). The scouts and explorers weren’t hanging about and by mid afternoon saw many completing their cards. Bit of a wait until the results and all we’re tired. Great effort and big well done to all the participants and big TY to the organisers again. Tonight we were joined by Iain the childrens minister at st Michael’s church. It was time to get ready for the service to be held on 9th October 2022 from 2-3pm. Iain had areas set up for prayer writing plus we had a task to build a tallest structure using various materials which were destroyed by Iain to show the scouts what happens in areas of the world when there is a flood or drought which ruins peoples hard work and leaves them with nothing to live on or invest into the future. With the cost of living crisis this hit home for the scouts. Tonight the osr scouts along with cubs and scouts from osr and school went along to watch England ladies play wales ladies at Ashton Gate stadium. 12,000 people were at the game which was very exciting. The scouts could be heard all around the stadium. The English Roses eventually won 73-7. Well done the 2 teams and well done the scouts. We all had a fab evening. |
