So tonight 52 members and parents of the OSR scout troop attended Ashton Gate to watch the final of the Arnold Clark Cup where the England Lionesses took on Belgium ladies, immediately before was the 3rd 4th place match between South Korea and Italy. What a great sporting event with the lionesses being crowned champions and lifting the trophy. The scouts had a fabulous time with commemorative sunglasses and wavy hands all in bright yellow. The final score was 6-1 with the English goalkeeper having very little to do for the majority of the 90 minutes. The crowd of 19k plus were amazing with Mexican waves and chants coming from all around the stadium really made it a match the scouts won’t forget in a hurry if at all! Tonight Stephen returned with his telescopes and we learnt about satellites, the solar system and scale, life on other planets and scouts made their own telescopes and the completion of the Astronomy badge. Big ty to Stephen. Today was the Avon Scouts cooking competition out at Keynsham scout HQ. Four OSR scouts represented the troop at the competition with scouts from 5 other districts. After 2 hours of cooking the judges found it very difficult to divide the teams as the standard was high. The eventual winners and next 4 places were within 9 points of one another. Everyone had fun and enjoyed eating their 3 course meals based on the theme of past, present and future world scout jamboree’s. Good job all. So last evening the OSR scouts started the Astronomy badge with a guest speaker Stephen and his inflatable star lab. The scouts all managed to get inside where they were shown the constellations and solar system plus talked about the formation of the Earth.
When they all managed to get out, all were given star charts and had to identify 10 constellations from lots of dots. Big ty to Stephen. See you next week |
