This weekend the OSR Scouts held a night hike from Olveston Scout HQ around Thornbury and back from Alveston to the start/ finish. The troop planned a sleepover weekend at the scout hut and after arriving at 6pm set off in 3 patrols starting at 7pm and staggered every 15 minutes. It was pitch black and the star constellations were easily visible with Cassiopeia, the North Star and the plough a great way to get your bearings. The second checkpoint was at the fish and chips shop on The High Street in Thornbury where everyone was treated to a portion of chips. Then off again to check points 3-6 and then finally back to the Start/ finish at around 1am. Quick hot chocolate and some cake and to bed. The next morning up with the sun and the scouts cooking our breakfast as well as cereals and fresh juice. Then after clearing away it was time for some shelter building, fire lighting, packing a rucksack and the Countryside Code. More food at lunchtime and lots more cake and after cleaning up the HQ so no one would know we were there it was time for home and collection at 5pm. Big ty to Paul, Mike, George and Martin for giving up the start of their weekend. The scouts had a fab time making memories and learning some useful skills. Well done to everyone!
