As it’s nearly Christmas someone had the idea of a table decoration for the families to put in pride of place on their festive table. So 3 bases, firstly drilling and chiselling out a hole in the wooden logs then candle making with a personalised scent and colour and finally decoration with hot glue, tinsel, holly, Ivy and snow. Hectic doesn’t go anywhere near how tonight’s session was but some of the finished table centres looked fabulous. Ty to all the leaders that controlled the chaos with no injuries from any of the power tools, molten wax or hot glue. Hope your families like your efforts and good job to all osr scouts. Tonight at Old School Rooms Scout Troop in Stoke Gifford was special for Grace who received her Gold Chief Scouts Award presented by the Group Scout Leader Paul Smith who congratulated her on all the hard work and dedication to gain this, the highest Award in the scout section. To gain this Grace has spent 4 years regularly attending troop meetings and has completed all of the 9 challenge awards plus 24 activity badges and 10 nights away on troop camps and sleepovers which she has had to juggle with her musical talents, concerts and practice.
Grace was presented her certificate and cloth badge in front of the whole troop and after cutting her celebration cake all applauded her achievement plus in the hopes that they might receive a piece! The troop have been fortunate to have had ten recipients of this top award this year and shows how successful they are with all the activities they take part in and a well balanced programme. The troop leader used the occasion to remind all the other scouts that with a lot of hard work they might gain this top award and took the opportunity to thank all the volunteer leaders that give so much of their time for the young people. Big Congratulations to Grace for this award. Today at St. Michael’s Church was the Advent Church Parade attended by uniformed groups including 1st Stoke Gifford Scout Group. The service was run by the guides and very well attended and afterwards the guides gave out refreshments in the coffee shop. Big TY to them for organising a lovely service for us all. Saturday 30th November 2019 scouts from the Old School Rooms in Stoke Gifford attended Tesco’s Bradley Stoke fundraising for The Childrens Hospitals Wallace and Gromit Appeal who looked after One of their cubs Alex. It was a busy day and many of the customers were generous with their donations. The scouts were very informative about why we were there. Originally we were collecting for our international camp account but with Alex falling seriously Ill and the care and treatment he received the scouts wanted to raise some money to say a big Thank You. Well done to all the scouts, thank you to Tesco and all their customers and we hope the money raised will help the Appeal. The grand total was £511.31 and will be split for to two causes. |
