Tonight scouts from the old school rooms troop got the chance to explore the local area hunting for 24 items. Plenty of time to chat and when they found something from their crib sheet they had to take a photo and send it to the leaders. Lots of fun in the dark working together as a team and problem solving. Great job all. Today at the st. Michael’s church in Stoke Gifford scouts from the OSR troop took the lead for the Harvest festival parade and service. Joined by other uniformed groups and lots of parents, relatives and friends the church was full with 73 visitors. Readings from the bible, prayers and other readings the scouts were fully involved. Those that didn’t read collected flags, saw guests to their seats and accepted food gifts that they put on the top table for all to see displayed. Several songs and the Childrens minister Iain gave a lesson with a harvest twist on giving and not needing to receive. Great job by the old school rooms scouts, very smartly washed and ironed uniforms and all did us proud. Ty. As part of the Gold Chief scouts award the OSR scouts were joined tonight by Gemma a local dairy farmer and Clive an ex farmer both from the local area to learn about farming locally, farming in the UK and facts about farming world wide. Gemma talked about her farm and how the cows can self milk themselves using automated machinery. They are born on the fam, live their lives on the farm and die on the farm. The herd are well looked after and lots and lots of other facts. We then had unpasteurised milk shakes and cookies The scouts asked lots of questions and wanted to visit the farm so we have arranged this later this month. Big TY to our guests. |
