Members of the old school rooms scout troop in stoke gifford travelled down to Kewstoke Sand Bay beach today to a beach clean. Nine scouts a couple of leaders and 5 or 6 parents all joined in. We met at the car park where we kitted up and had a safety talk especially about the main road, glass and anything sharp. The scouts made it to the end of the beach with 2 full bags of litter (and lots of micro plastics). The return walk was easier, bit breezy but the sun was out and there were lots of other beach goers. We had a few comments about it was nice to see us helping out/ keeping the beach tidy. At the end the cafe was open so we had lunch and we’re joined by other parents. The day was a great success with another full bag filled up and put into the cafe bin. Ty to all that helped, lovely day and lovely company. A tale of 2 different experiences for the old school rooms scouts from stoke gifford. The recent flooding made the water level at the adventure park higher than normal but manageable and the troop were split into 2 groups. Group one the younger scouts all managed to get onto the water and after some skills had some time to practice their paddling with the 4 experienced instructors keeping a watch out. The second group was a different story, the older scouts session was abandoned due to conditions and the session has been rearranged for later in the term! Having said that all the scouts enjoyed the sun and open space with the older scouts entertaining themselves with a ball. Big ty to the wet activities team from Wansdyke district for the experience and we look forward to seeing you in July. To celebrate the kings coronation the st Michael’s centre (jacob) organised a fun day on the green outside the OSR. 1st Stoke Gifford scout group helped out with a BBQ and members of the OSR scout troop helped to prep, cook, serve and pack up all the kit needed with other members from beavers and cubs. We cooked and gave away 350 burgers and 350 hot dogs to families that attended the event. Donations were collected that will help the group. Same again in 3 weeks! Big TY to everyone that helped out! Tonight scouts from the old school rooms troop in stoke gifford went dragon boating out at Saltford this evening hosted by the Bristol Empire Dragons club. First of all as always we had a safety talk and kitted up. Carried the 2 boats out to the waters edge and off they then paddled out of site down the river around the bend. When the emerges back around the bend shouting in unison stroke, stroke, stroke! Smiles on their faces and soggy arms of their troop hoodies but they all loved it and we got the boats out in quick order and back into the clubhouse. Big ty to all the club instructors for a fab dragon boating experience. Good luck for the season! |
