So Kahoutek is back again for the second year at Woodhouse Park and a team of 5 scouts from OSR troop entered the activity based competition. The weather was good and the 20 bases were all problem solving challenges, some more difficult than others but all the scouts and guides had a great time. The eventual winners were a guide unit from Winterbourne Down with OSR scouts finishing 18th a respectable place. Many thanks to all the organisers and volunteers from Bristol University and UWE. The founder of the competition some 40+ years ago attended and made the presentations. Congratulations to all that took part see you all next year. In preparation for this weekends Kahoutek Competition the leaders decided to put the OSR scouts through their paces with a helium balloon assault course, Egg drop challenge, minefield, reducing May and marshmallow and spaghetti tallest towers. Then a game of 1 truth and 1 lie. The scouts had fun completing the challenges with eventual winners the Hawks showing they’re the best Avon County Cooking Competition was held at Keynsham Scout HQ today and 4 scouts represented OSR scout troop. The standard was high and Stoke Gifford finished a very respectful 3rd missing out on a place at the regional finals by half a point to 1st Congresbury Scout Troop. The 4 scouts had a lot of fun and we’re congratulated on their team work. Great job all and thank you to Janet for running the team, shopping and holding a practice day so each scout could show off their culinary skills and be given their responsibilities in the team. Tonight was the annual swimathon for osr scouts and Patchway Judo club. The scouts we’re raising money for the camp account and 20 of them put in a great 1 hour session and completed 220 lengths between them in the relay type event. They had a great time with time to chat with friends and learn things to help make new ones. Both organisations had time for a group photo with their certificates before leaving the centre. Many thanks to the pool staff and lifeguards for helping to make the swimathon go off without a hitch. Great job all. Now all the sponsorship money is in and we raised £290, with one of the leaders having his employer matching upto £200. Many thanks. |
