Woodhouse park organised an activity for the scout section and OSR jumped at the chance to attend and even camped out under canvas on the Friday evening. This gave Amy her final night away for her Gold Chief Scouts Award and 18 other scouts joined in with her. Lots of food, lots of mud and more activities you could shake a stick at from crates, high ropes, climbing, abseiling, jacob’s ladder, crafts, cooking, tomahawks, archery, shooting, crossbow, pedal cars to name a few. Great value for money. We even got the tents down before the rain arrived. Big TY to jack and emily for helping all weekend. A session for OSR scouts in the newer building, not all turned up but that’s ok as it is half term and scouts is optional! So thanks to Warhammer for giving us sets of models/ paints/ booklets/ brushes etc. of course we had a safety and fire brief then showed the scouts lots of georges Warhammer orks. Then on with the model making and painting! We had snacks and drinks and once we finished we were joined by Chris who explained D&D gave out the character charts, turned on the tv and off we went a band of wiz’s, barbarians, healers all meeting a dwarf at an inn going on a quest. The scouts really got into their characters and beat off govlins, ogers and wolves. Big TY to Chris and George for helping the scouts. Some great figurines and we all can’t wait to play again. The OSR scout troop were invited to watch another women’s flyers basketball game today and what a game it was. End to end action, blocks, fouls, free throws and much much more. Speaking to the women’s team players afterwards they really appreciated it! Mara and Hannah had a great game scoring lots of points and some great rebounds. The troop were even sat court side which was up close to the action. Not all could stay to meet the team at the end but all enjoyed the game which has broken the teams losing streak. Big TY to Chris, Mara and Hannah for letting us meet the rest of the players. The team would love to have as many scouts, siblings and family attend all their home matches which are free and don’t normally need tickets. Go as families and have fun. I might even be there to but you don’t really need me! Good luck for the rest of the season! This evening the osr troop welcomed Steve in to session with his space hub and crater making equipment. As a lecturer from Bristol Uni he is an expert on astronomy and astronautics. We split the troop in half and in small teams, half took care with eye protection to drop differing sizes of ball bearings from different heights to make a lunar surface full of craters. After the H&S brief re cement and soot the scouts recorded on their slow mo phones videos of their work. The best team result all received a galaxy chocolate bar. Gj Brody, Danny and Oliver. Then they changed around and entered the space dome to learn about how the earth was formed, solar systems and constellations which got a debate going with some interesting views |
