Day 2 and back with the regional community impact team at the Artillery Grounds on Whiteladies Rd, Bristol. 2 more sessions and several OSR scouts joining other members of the County to do all things mechanics to gain their activity badge. Another 100 scouts in 2 sessions of 50, plus leaders. Lots of fun, oil, learning, practical, problem solving and team work. Massive TY to Kerry and his team couldn’t do it without you. The OSR team won the challenge re self propelled vehicle, it actually hit the wall at the far end of the hall! Ty Greg. Today saw scouts from all over Avon Scouts come together at Whiteladies Road Artillery Centre. The Army’s Regional community Involvement team were in town to run a morning and afternoon session covering the mechanics activity badge. Lots of 1st Stoke Gifford OSR scouts were in attendance learning everything from changing a wheel, checking the oil dipstick and replacing a wiper blade to building a self propelled vehicle, communication skills and problem solving. All the scouts had fun, same again tomorrow! Tonight at the old school rooms the patrols were given all the equipment needed to cook and prepare a two course meal. Based on the style of the hit TV show can’t cook won’t cook they all had some minced beef and fresh fruit and had to decide what meals they wanted to cook. Chilli, meatballs, cottage pie, spaghetti bolognaise or another choice. Then desert from fresh fruit salad, angel delight with fruit, eton mess or just a mess (Merlin’s). They could then come up to the main table and choose the other ingredients to complete their menus. Lots of creative genius going on for an hour with washing up and clearing away going on throughout then it was presentation and tasting. Only Phelpsie and sasha were crazy enough to get stuck in and the results were surprising. Some dishes that didn’t look the best actually tasted the best and so the points were in. Joint winners kestrels and hawks, then falcons, eagles and Merlin’s. Big well done to all. A new term so why not go caving again. Big TY to Marek and Lee for taking the latest 6 scouts underground at Burrington Combe. The mendips are a wonderful place to visit and the scouts had a fab time. They spotted 13 bats got thoroughly dirty and a little wet. |
