After many years of hard work and determination they finally reached their top award in the scout section, Rebecca and Charlie received their badge and certificate from Paul (GSL). A few words about role models and it’s about the scouts attending and putting in the effort and it was time for photos and cake! Big well done to both, also to Paul for coming along to make the presentation. Thoroughly deserved by both and hopefully they don’t leave us until Easter so they can help the others to gain their gold awards. Tonight was the last session of the autumn term for scouts from the old school rooms troop. We went to planet ice, Cribbs Causeway for some ice skating fun! Some of the scouts had been skating before and others hadn’t but we had a coach to keep an eye on our green and gold hoodies incase of difficulties. The main hall/ rink was chilly but after burning off lots of calories most scouts had removed a layer at least and taken on more water. It was fun watching the scouts get more and more confident as they went around and around with various civilians and other scout troops. After we handed back our boots it was back into the coffee shop for an Xmas present and a quick presentation Big TY to Jane for all the prep and shopping for tonight’s Christmas chocolate logs. The scouts got all creative with chocolate butter icing which was harder than it looked to actually do. All the scouts made their own and decorated the top with fondant icing Holly leaves and berries. There was chocolate everywhere but some great cakes that will look fab on the Christmas table this 25th. Good job all. The uniformed groups in Stoke Gifford paraded to St Michael’s church for this years advent service. Scouts from OSR scout troop joined the guides to do the reading and cubs & brownies read prayers. Sam and Iain held the service and taught us all about Christdingle nd the meaning of the individual elements. At the end of the service everybody were invited to take a packet consisting of a candle, four cocktail sticks, a piece of tin foil and four sweets plus an orange with a red ribbon around its middle. Big TY to all that attended, Amy and Siona for reading and Luke for carrying the flag. The service was very meaningful. |
