OSR Scouts attend the Royal British Legion Poppy launch today at Parkway train station. Smaller event than past years die to covid but we were there and we paid are respects to those that paid the ultimate price so we could have our freedoms today. Members of the RBL bikers, also Jack Lopresti and other military and councillors. The poppy launch is a yearly event and in our area they raise a massive amount for veterans. Well done all that could make it. This signs off part of your Poppy badge requirements and we will work on the rest of the badge during 2022 ready for Remembrance Day parade. Half term is here and the OSR scouts from Stoke Gifford were off camping for the weekend at Woodhouse Park Activity Centre. Now the site is back in the hands of Avon Scouts it was a great opportunity to support the volunteers with much needed funding as well as some service which meant the scouts, young leaders and leaders de weeding the activity tower floor which is covered in chippings and needed to be cleared so the inspection can take place to commission it back into use. The scouts arrived on Friday and after setting up the camp had a prepared meal before an evening of fun and widegames. Saturday was full of activities from archery, obstacle course, axe/ knife/ saw training, fire lighting & cooking on open fires and a campfire full of songs and actions completed with s’mores and a Lateish bedtime. Sunday was up early with cooking breakfast on the alter fires and later lunch plus orienteering with a scavenger hunt then after a short light rain full, clearing the campsite, de kitting and taking down all the tents leaving the beautiful site just like we had never been there. Fabulous weekend, we were very lucky with the weather and it was great to support our local campsite. To be honest the scouts don’t mind where they are as long as they are with friends. There were points awarded during the weekend for various activities and the winners were tent 1 with 60 points, tent 2 had 50 points , tent 3 had 53 points and tent 4 had 57 points. During the final flagbreak campsite badges were given to all that attended for their camp blankets so in future years they can remember the memories of camp. Well done everyone now to start planning the next camp! Tonight at OSR the scout troop we’re joined by Andri from Avon and Somerset police sexual exploitation unit. The troop were flabbergasted by the talk on internet safety and exploitation and how easy it is for predators to gain your trust and exploit young people on line. Andri went through games, apps, streaming etc etc including Alexa and camera’s/ microphones. It’s fair to say the scouts will all be checking their privacy settings and making adjustments. Big thank you to Andri. Tonight one of the OSR Young Leaders receives her YL Belt for completing all her training.20/10/2021
Tonight at OSR scout troop one of our own Ellie Pleass receive her young leader belt from Steve Daniels YL commissioner for Brunel District. Ellie has completed all 11 modules and 4 missions to complete her YL training, this is especially rewarding due to the last 18 months of no face to face scouting. Great job Ellie. Now for the other YLs to complete theirs! |
