Bank holiday, glorious sunshine and what better than a bbq for 700 residents at the stoke gifford village fete at the trust hall grounds. 1st Stoke Gifford scout group were invited to BBQ and as normal we didn’t disappoint!
Great teamwork with some group leaders, fundraising committee members and friends/ family. Big ty to all that made themselves available to help out. This evenings continuation of the water theme in this term’s program saw Sue from Wessex water attend and speak with the OSR scouts about water and especially water treatment. Sue spent 45 minutes explaining what happens from the minute the water goes down the plug hole to when it gets cleaned and returned to the system. What happens to the sludge and it’s uses and how the pipes and sewers get blocked by wet wipes! The scouts were a little shocked at fat balls and other items thrown into the waste. Also how bugs are used to break down the sludge so we can reuse everything. Big ty to sue. We have a visit planned to see the whole process up and personal. This evening saw Megan and Jess receiving their Gold Chief Scouts Awards from the deputy county commissioner. The two scouts received their certificates and badges in front of the troop and family members with a short presentation and then cut their celebratory cake which everyone shared. The Gold award is the culmination of 4 years scouting and at least 8 nights away and 6 activity badges but between them the girls had 40+ activity badges plus all 8 challenge awards and 44 nights away. The commissioner congratulated both scouts and said that they were an inspiration to the younger members of the troop. We wish both success in their futures whether that be in scouting or other things. So couple of things, pirate bay (thinnest of connection with water this terms theme) is now called Kong adventure golf. Plus the price has increased to £8. The OSR scouts split into groups of 5-6 and collected their putters and ball. The course has all been revamped and was very good. The putting of some scouts wasn’t great but the laughter and chatter was contagious. We lost 8 balls into the water hazards and managed to break a putter by accident. The winner was Jenson and so gets points for his patrol. Gj everyone. |
