This evening was the last session of term before the festive season. Lots of hard work and lots of badges given out to the scouts. 4 OSR Scouts Mia, Nathan, Maya and Jamal all having completed the Gold Chief Scouts Award from DC Clive Mason. Unfortunately in these times of isolation etc only Nathan and Mia could attend in person. 4.5 years of hard work completing all 9 Challenge Awards at least 6 activity badges (but more like 26) and at least 8 nights away but in our busy troop we do 4-5 camps a year. The scouts put in the work and attend regularly and it’s the job of the leaders to put the opportunity in the programme so they can complete the highest award in the scout section. Also this evening we were joined by Steve Daniels the district explorer scout commissioner who presented Josh and Jack with their Young Leader Belts and Certificates. The YL scheme is a series of modules giving the young people the tools to complete face to face missions running activities and games within the chosen section on a voluntary basis. The modules are similar to the adult training and when they become adults will help them gain their Wood Badges. Finally but definitely not least Steve was presented with the Order of Merit for his outstanding contribution to scouting and Paul Smith (GSL) was presented with the Silver Acorn for his outstanding contribution within the group and district. Congratulations to all for all their hard work, BRAVO. It does seem a long time since the OSR Scouts went to the panto but tonight’s performance of Snow White made up for all the lost time. It was a bit more covid aware due to the new variant with all the adults having to show vaccine cards or negative BCR tests and the scouts having had to have a negative LFT plus masks and we all gelled our hands on entry. The cast of 20 was smaller than in previous years but the costumes were fabulous. Same jokes from Andy Ford. He is a star. The scouts laughed all the way through it. During the shout outs when we were mentioned the scouts were surprised! and uncharacteristically quiet. Ice cream at half time which was fab. Ty for a brilliant evening’s entertainment here’s to next year! Ty Ali for organising Tonight’s scouts session in the OSR we were joined by Jim who helped us all making turkeys from plasticine from the Aardman films. Jim says professional model makers make 8 per day and they needed hundreds for the film. He divided the modelling material up and gave it out so all the scouts had their own. Then bit by bit telling the scouts then showing them on his very own model each body part starting with the white body then wings, neck and head, beak and eyes last of all the legs and feet. The scouts need a bit of help from Jim to get things right but you’ll see from the photos just how great they looked. Some of the models had a bit of artistic flair in the completion stage but Jim was impressed with all the scouts efforts. Big ty to Jim. We’ve got plenty of plasticine left for next time!! |
