Three scouts from OSR Scouts in Stoke Gifford have achieved their Gold Chief Scouts Award despite being in lockdown during the Covid 19 pandemic. Ollie, Emily and Oliver have completed the 9 Challenge Awards, Nights Away and Staged Activity Badges. In fact between them they have earned 116 Activity and Staged Activity badges and 63 Nights Away. The Gold Chief Scouts Award is a real achievement especially during these times we see ourselves in at the moment. Four years of hard work covering skills, outdoor, creative, team work, world, team leader, expedition, promise and adventure activities all fitted in between camps and District/ County competitions. All 3 of the scouts are Patrol Leaders which among other responsibilities means helping the younger members of their patrol. All 3 are great representatives of the OSR troop and are great role models. The tradition of the troop is to hold a special evening to award the Gold Chief Scout Certificates and badges which are normally presented by a scout Commissioner but because there is a restriction on face to face meetings this celebration will have to be postponed. All the leaders and scouts from OSR Scout Troop in Stoke Gifford want to say BRAVO to Ollie, Emily and Oliver and a big Well Done! The OSR Scouts latest zoom session tonight was short presentation on their favourite sandwiches/ fillings and extras. The scouts and leaders showed their previously prepared sandwiches to the zoom session (some were half eaten by the scouts whilst they waited for their turn). We had sausage, ham&cheese, chocolate spread, jam, ham, egg mayo, chicken, hot dogs and burgers to name a few. Sides of fruit, crisps and salad (ohhh really!!!!). The scouts answered questions and had fun. Then we played battleships using the grid square previously sent out. We took it in turns giving coordinates and indicating hits. We went into the second session and still didn’t finish the game but Paul had 6 squares remaining of his 5 ships and was declared the winner. Finally all the scouts were reminded of the worry box online 24/7. No face to face scouting due to the virus lockdown but Strategy 2020 Camp goes ahead at Home. The organisers have come up with activities which can be done by scouts and guides in the comforts of their own homes and gardens. Registration is needed and of course there’s a badge. OSR scouts have been working in the activities from drinking a pint of water to learning to tie a friendship knot. GJ all those taking part. The Old School Rooms Scouts challenge this week was to make a diy bird feeder or bug hotel so first things first it was time to show off our labours. Going to be some lucky birdies and bugs out in Stoke Gifford. Then onto the zoom session, no uniform tonight as the theme was fancy dress. Not all but most had tried their best with the leaders being an Old Git, Magnum PI, and Commando. The scouts were dresses in various outfits from cheer leaders to cats, grim reaper to yoda to name a few. It got everyone smiling and the first game of guess my animal got everyone thinking of closed questions to ask each other to identify their chosen animal. The second 40 minutes we played a Kahoot animal quiz which was very difficult but got everyone thinking. Then a quick recap of what everyone had done in the past week and what they had planned for next week. We finished the session with Red or Black before saying our goodbyes and wishing we all stay safe and well. |
