Tonight at the Old School Rooms Scout Troop meeting the District Commissioner Clive Mason assembled four leaders from 1st Stoke Gifford Scout Group for some well deserved Chief Scouts Long Service Awards. In front of the scout troop certificates were presented to Paul Smith (GSL) 30 Years, Sue Baker (Beaver leader) 25 Years and Lee Baker and Phelpsie (Scout leaders) 15 Years each. 85 years combined service to the community of Stoke Gifford and all the fun activities and camps the young people have experienced thanks to these four volunteering to give back to scouting. Here’s to another 85 years service. Big thank you to these leaders. If you would like to join the team at 1st Stoke Gifford Scout Group please visit their website and complete a become a leader or helper form. Photograph taken outside the old school rooms. Well it seems like such along time ago that we dusted off the tents and camped out with the scouts but this weekend due to the restrictions being eased for youth organisations the old school rooms scout troop PLs and APLs and leaders did just that. Only a weekend but we managed to fit in soooooo much stuff. Scouts organised the campsite, shopped for the provisions and returned to camp to show how to store the food for the time away, we did axe/knife/saw, camp gadgets, a big pioneering project then firelighting (with no matches) cooking on open fires, wide games, camp fire with songs which could be heard all over the site. We had smores and hot chocolate eventually getting to bed before an early start more open fire cooking, a 2 hour scavenger hunt, more wide games lots of cake! Plus flag break and flag down presentations and of course a Brockmead camp blanket badge. If I’ve missed anything out I’m sure I can add it later. Great to be back scouting. Great company the scouts, young leaders and adults all worked hard and hopefully leadership things were passed on. Now to de kit, have a bath and get the washing machine on. BRAVO all involved. 2 weeks time and we will be at it again. Tonight’s osr scouts session was first time in over a year that the whole troop have been in one group together. We ran through the start and finish of evening sessions but the main item was circuit training which we need to improve every week for a month. Sit ups, press ups, line jumps and jump burpees. The troop paired off and counted their partners. There was lots of laughter but they got the job done. Well done all! A healthy body and mind are good for all our wellbeing. Rest up now for next week. Tonight before our usual scout evening we were joined by Andy and a Suez recycling truck which the osr scout climate Heros for an advertising photo opportunity to get the message across to the residents of South Gloucestershire that they shouldn’t put crisp bags and other film plastics in with the plastic recycling waste. Crisp bags need to be specially recycled and not put in the weekly collections. We took lots of photos with the climate Heros holding the crisp bag globe. We even got Andy in a photo. Big ty to everyone that’s worked so hard to produce our Artwork for the Blue Peter green badge (which is made from recycled yoghurt pots). The scouts are going to spend 5 months collecting used crisp bags which weigh 3 grams and add them up to see what we could make. The bags will be taken to the wise centre where they can be specially recycled. |
