Tonight was group 2 first face to face session and as per last week with group 1 we had Zoe and Annabel invested into the troop and silver chief scouts awards for leuan and Noah. Congratulations to all four and welcome to osr troop. The rest of the session in the light rain was a mini it’s a knock out this week with a tie a knot to slow the scouts down a bit. It was great to see all the scouts. Lots of fun and laughter. Tonight at osr scouts first F2F session outside of the old school rooms on the green we had half the scouts return and so invested 3 of the cubs that have moved up to the scout troop. Callum, Ben and Luke were all socially distant accepted into the troop. Also Callum received his silver chief scouts award which he completed during lockdown. Welcome to all three. This is the start of your journey guys. Have fun! Over the last 12 months scouting in the UK has been difficult due to the restrictions but there has still been scouting just not in a traditional way. This is true in Stoke Gifford who have continued scouting using zoom online sessions as well as camping at home, weekly challenges and badges. So just how much more difficult is it to achieve scouts top awards during the pandemic! Four scouts; Cameron, Alfie, Emily and Daniel have all managed to do just that. Nine Challenge Awards, an average of 30+ Activity Badges and a minimum of 8 and maximum of 33 nights away under canvas during four and a half years in the scout section. The final requirements for three of the four was a 2 day expedition which was only possible when the virus restrictions were lifted this April. It’s always great to have scouts achieve their top award and it shows great commitment by them but also a balanced program provided by the volunteer leaders who work hard to give the scouts as many opportunities as they can. OSR Scout troop are very successful at getting their members through their top awards A massive congratulations to all four scouts. Tonight the scouts received their awards and certificates from DCC Alec Tomlinson and then we had a celebration cake. . Tonight at the Old School Rooms Scout Troop in Stoke Gifford first face to face meeting it was an evening of celebrating all the good work the troop has been doing during the lock down, amongst scouts being invested into the troop and receiving either Silver (cubs) or gold chief scouts awards we were also privileged to have three of the adults being awarded their Chief Scouts Commendations from Bear and presented by our Group Scout Leader Paul Smith in front of the scouts and parents. The Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service is given in respect of not less than 5 years good service, which stands out. It should be regarded as the Chief Scout’s recognition of the very real contribution made to the Association by the individuals who have completed all their training. The three leaders, Kathryn Gibbs, Alison Emsley and Michael Webb all contribute to a very successful troop and all their time and energy pays off with the young people achieving skills for life and having a fun filled programme. A big congratulations to all three leaders for being recognised and here’s to many more years of scouting in the community. |
