Due to our close links with The RBL the OSR scouts were invited to take part in the 2015 Poppy Appeal Launch which was being held at the Parkway train station in Stoke Gifford. Invited guests included MP Jack Lopresti, Senior RBL officers as well as scouts, air and army cadets plus a Chelsea pensioner as guest of honour. The cutting of the ribbon signified the guest to beat last years mammoth effort of £40,000 (to which we helped to collect outside of Sainsbury's I/c the RBL). This will count towards this years Poppy badge also Remembrance day parade
Sunday 18th October saw the osr scouts travelling down to Ashton Gate to the 229th Bristol HQ to take part in this years joti. As well as talking to scouts from lots of European countries we spoke to members of the scout movement from New Zealand, Australia, China and Canada all remembering to get our registration numbers as evidence. The scouts had time to talk on the Avon scout radio, cook pizzas, play on the Wii and record a slow movie on the ipads.. It was time for the south west meccano club to visit the troop with a new model (dune buggy). The 4 club members are so enthusiastic about their hobby it is contagious and the scouts caught the bug, with a bit of healthy competition thrown in for good measure. This is the first time all models were finished and the experts were suitably impressed with the effort put in. First of all I'd like to say a great big thank you to Simon and his team the weekend was great fun and the scouts learnt a lot about power boating, skills, control, speed and of course their level 1 national certificate. The scouts behaved brilliant and great fun was had by all, thanks also to Lee for all his help and support. We couldn't have done it without him. |
