End of the summer term and it was time to say good bye to Rayne, Samuel and Noah, all three of which had gained their Gold Chief Scouts Awards and were presented with their certificates and badges by the GSL Paul Smith. Paul congratulated all 3 on 4 years of hard work and highlighted them as role models for the other members of the troop to follow. There was then the traditional massive cake for the 3 to cut and then it was photos, applause and farewells. The scouts completed their awards on the weekend from completing the 2 day expedition to promoting scouting with a poster and finally completing the drug, alcohol and tobacco awareness. All three have done a great job and we wish them every success with their next adventures. Final session of this water based summer term had the old school room scouts attending the West Country water park near Bradley Stoke. The scouts were excited and this was a great way to end the term. Lots of fun and laughter, the occasional push and lots of splashing about. The water was a cool 18 degrees but with some wearing wet suits and others toughening it out 60 minutes didn’t seem enough but the families watching from the sidelines were able to get some great photographs. Ty to the Waterpark staff. So that’s another expedition completed for OSR scouts, 10 volunteers arrived at woodhouse park yesterday morning and in 2 teams walked with all their kit through 3 checkpoints to Oldbury on Severn where we all spent a very windy night. A meal to keep us going and then bacon & sausage baps, cereals, juice and a massive packed lunch all supplied by Alison. Then after a team photo it was off again through another 3 checkpoints to the finish at Berkeley power station. Great job all. Ty to Ellie, Rich and Martin for all your help and support. During the expedition we all used the Life360 App it’s free and worked very well we could all see where we all were within our circle and this kept track of and estimate arrival times etc. So the kits been checked and repacked properly ready for this weekends 2 day expedition from woodhouse park to Berkeley power station 20+ miles carrying all their kit and the weather looks just right with high winds, thunder & lightning and heavy rain with glorious spells of sunshine, as last year was boiling hot! This is why you need a leader with expedition permit! Good luck to those scouts taking part don’t forget your waterproofs. |
