This week the OSR Scouts and leaders started their walking from Lands End to John O’Groats challenge for the Julian Trust Homeless Charity. This is virtual of course as we only get an exercise period each day and so we are recording these distances on Strava, google maps and every other app we can find. We have a crowdfunding page which is collecting donations and we are advertising using Facebook to show our daily progress etc. The scouts managed to get to Fraddon on A30 end of day 1 and by the end of day 2 were just outside Taunton near Troll. The end of third day and we’ve shot past Bristol and are at Upper Wick between Thornbury and Stroud. What a fantastic effort by all. Plus we are currently on £125 donations and hope to get close to £500. That’s a lot of warm weather clothing. Why are the scouts doing this well as in previous posts we had Gary from the Julian Trust join us on zoom and tell us all about the rough sleepers. So that weekend at -3 degrees centigrade the scouts built cardboard shelters and slept out to experience just what it’s like for the rough sleepers. That’s it really.
