Today saw scouts from the old school rooms troop in Stoke Gifford turn up at Sand Bay beach in Kewstoke near Weston- super- mare for some litter picking. With the help of leaders and a few parents the scouts grabbed their pickers and rubbish bags and made their way from the car park over the road and dunes onto the sand. There were a group of Surfers against Sewage doing a test litter pick over a 100 feet by 100 feet area so the scouts went beyond this area and by paying particular attention to the high tide line found large amounts of plastic from rope strands, beads, lolly sticks and even straws. It was very warm when the clouds were gone but very nice when they returned with a refreshing sea breeze. We all stopped at lunchtime and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Massive thank you to all the volunteers for coming out today. We had some fabulous comments from other beach goers thanking us for our hard work and questions regarding where we were from and why this particular beach etc. This was our little bit of giving back enjoying a weekend scout session.
