35 members of 1st Stoke Gifford old school rooms troop spend an evening at frome field in Woodhouse park firelighting and backwoods cooking on open fires. The scouts first hand to set the fires some using pyramid technique and others the stacking technique with newspaper, straw, tumble dryer fluff and kindling. Then once the fires ignited using either flint and steel, magnesium rod and striker or when all else failed the good old match! Whilst The fires died down the scouts foraged for stickers so they could impale a sausage and wrap it with dough making a sausage roll, Mike’s was cremated, but all tasted fab. Another course was burgers cooked in embers sat on a cabbage leaf which were transferred to buns and cheese slices. The cabbage also tasted crispy. We finally did marshmallows for s’mores and popcorn. A manhunt Widegame to finish and we were all off home after a fun couple of hours and it was great being back out at Woodhouse park. Big ty to Mike who arranged the session and bought all the supplies. Comments are closed.
