Tonight the old school rooms scouts were joined on zoom by Gary a trustee from the Julian Trust to talk about the trust and homelessness in Bristol. The scouts were told that at the start of the first lock down 300 rough sleepers were placed in hotels and guest houses to protect them and get them off the streets. This number were far in excess of the official rough sleeper numbers. The Julian Trust is supporting other charities during the pandemic as they haven’t the facilities to take in guests 7 days a week and Gary missed the camaraderie with the other volunteers and of course the guests. He told the scouts who were intrigued and asking questions all through the 40 minutes, he enjoys his volunteering and gets a real feeling of making a difference. The scouts main question was how can we help and Gary said about donations, food and clothing especially socks and bower shorts. So now the scouts need to put their thinking caps on and workout just how in these lockdown times we raise money to supply what’s needed. Massive thank you to Gary for an excellent talk. We are grateful for what you do. This weekend the scouts are going to experience what it feels like to sleep outdoors with their very own cardboard shelters in their own gardens of course due to lock down. Good luck all it’s going to be a cold one. Comments are closed.
