The OSR Scouts attended the 209th Bristol Scout HQ this evening to try their hands at shooting. Almost all the troop turned up and were shown safety and handling of the air rifles by Paul, Claire and Kieran Baker all experienced instructors. Then the scouts were put in 2 groups (one outside having fun and games and one inside mastering the art of rifle shooting. We swapped halfway through and checked the targets. There is a lot of natural talent amongst the troop and with a little more honing we should have a fair few marksmen and women. Good job all and ty to the instructors for a very productive evening. OSR Scouts spent their Sunday at Kewstoke near Weston-super-mare cleaning Sand Bay Beach of any rubbish and moved the drift wood to the dunes out of the way. The beach is popular with dogs and their walkers and during the 5 hour session many either joined in putting rubbish in the scouts bags or stopped to ask us where we were from and how could they get involved. A great day was had by all in lovely sunny weather. A picnic lunch was taken and eaten by the car park cafe and at the end around 5 bags of rubbish including small pieces of plastic were collected. Good job all ! This week the OSR Scouts had plenty of fresh air whilst playing wide games near the Dower House in Stoke Park, Bristol. Sardines, Man Hunt, jail break and ambush. These all count towards the scouts Gold Chief Scouts Award as well as being a lot of fun on a lovely evening. Today out at Woodhouse Park the old school rooms cubs and scouts joined together to cook a roast dinner on open fires with popcorn and smores for desert. The four teams started by collecting plenty of firewood and then lining their boxes to make an oven to cook their chickens. Then it was prep for potatoes, carrots, peas, corsets, stuffing and peppers. Then off to find more wood with the chickens cooking nicely. Then using 2 inverted sieves we made popcorn which was buttered. With the fires reloaded it was time to do the stuffing, vegetables and gravy. Once served up it was time for the judge. Then cleaning up and smores. Great day and lovely food with all teams doing something different. Team A came in on top by 1 point and everyone had a reward for their hard work.
