Back in the Spring Term the OSR Scout Troop registered for the International Jambowlree Competition and had an evening of fun and bowling at Hollywood Bowl, Cribbs Causeway. Well after a few months the results are in and they finished 13th out of 313 teams from all around the world. The leaders also entered a team finishing 9th out of 104. Congratulations to everyone, I’ll email out the certificates Day 2 and it was an early start to get the kit packed away, tents down and in for breakfast, collect packed lunch and a quick photo in front of the clubhouse then off again whilst the weather wasn’t too hot. Big ty to Claire for shopping and cooking to keep all the scouts going. The scouts finished ahead of time with 20 miles behind them, dekit then home. Big ty to Jackie, Martin, Andrew, William and Jack for shadowing the scouts along the route. So Saturday 6/7/19 saw 16 scouts from the OSR Troop turn up at Severn Beach with all the kit they needed for a 2 day expedition. Before they could set off in their 2 teams they were given tents, first aid kits, maps, compasses, whistles and some survival bags. They headed off North and along sections of the Severn Walkway. Through Aust Services to the overnight camp at Thornbury Sailing Club which is a beautiful location. After setting up the tents we went for dinner and played a wide game on our return before bed. It was either because everyone was exhausted or the ropes chumming on the sailing masts but we were all asleep by midnight. Last evening the OSR scouts sharpened up on their map reading skills prior to our 2 day expedition this coming weekend. The troop were split for 2 sessions those attending the expo planning the route and completing the route plan. The second session was map orientation, 4&6 figure grid references, bearings and drawing the route map from their homes to the scout hut. |
